Aluminium 5083 is known for exceptional performance in extreme environments. It is highly resistant to attack by both seawater and industrial chemical environments, making it the go-to choice for marine and offshore applications. 5083 has the highest strength of the non-heat treatable alloys, but is not recommended for use in temperatures in excess of 65°C. The welded joint retains more of the parent metal strength than with most other aluminium alloys.
